What is Oromo Protests?

On Monday June 29th, 2020, renowned artist and human rights activist Haacaaluu Hundeessaa was assassinated in Addis Ababa (Finfinnee). His death was undoubtedly linked to a recent interview he did, speaking out against anti-Oromo sentiments in Ethiopia.
Since his death, prominent members of the opposition party, along with countless others – some of which are American citizens – have been arrested in Ethiopia. Oromo activists’ social media accounts have been closed, and Ethiopia has issued an internet shutdown yet again to hide its crimes.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed must RESIGN for there to be any possibility of peace, democracy and justice in #Oromia and #Ethiopia. #OromoProtests #FreePoliticalPrisoners #AbiyMustGo https://rb.gy/w6bb6u
Remember when @PMAbiy invited all #Oromo opposition parties to participate in elections? Their members and leaders are now imprisoned. Elections are cancelled. All “reforms” have been reversed in #Ethiopia. #FreePoliticalPrisoners
PM Abiy’s Regime has arrested and detained political leaders from ALL leading #Oromo political parties, including Oromo Federalist Congress and OLF. This is tantamount to a declaration of war on Oromia. #AbiyMustGo #OromoProtests #FreePoliticalPrisoners
Remember when @PMAbiy said he’d close Maekalawi, #Ethiopia’s notorious torture chamber? Why are opposition party leaders Jawar/Bekele & #American journalists #RedwanAman and #YusufBeshir currently there? #AbiyMustGo #FreePoliticalPrisoners #OromoProtests https://rb.gy/r6uuk
